The Software Engineer develops software in line with Cisco's 'Design Thinking Principles,' emphasizing simplification and user experience (UX) at its core. This includes using secure coding practices, ensuring user privacy, and adhering to software development best practices. The role involves partnering with other teams, such as design and product management, to develop effective solutions for customers. Responsibilities also include creating technical design documentation for the team and contributing to user documentation for end-users. Engineers debug and resolve software issues during development and in production systems to support customers, bring new ideas for product innovation, and help improve software development processes.
What You’ll Do:
- Communicate status and issues to the team.
- Share experience and knowledge to support the team.
- Perform routine assignments requiring basic knowledge and exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts.
- Collaborate effectively with the immediate team.
- Contribute to small projects and work with others on small features, primarily focusing on coding and testing.
- Develop an understanding of the software development lifecycle and various agile engineering practices (e.g., requirements analysis, design, coding, unit testing, acceptance testing), assisting on projects where these methods are applied.
- Analyze user requirements and work with others to understand their impact on technical design features.
- Write correct code with assistance.
- Support test code refining and rewriting as part of testing and debugging.
- Assist with tests for scaling, reliability, and velocity.
- Apply secure coding principles and follow secure coding guidelines.
- Support more senior team members in troubleshooting and debugging issues.
- Become proficient in at least one large area of the codebase (multiple services in a pillar) with a high-level understanding of other components.
