Meet the Team
The Cisco Wireless Platform team develops foundational embedded software that powers Cisco wireless products. The team works closely with hardware, system architecture, testing, and product groups to bring up new platforms, enable core subsystems, and deliver reliable, high performance software at scale. Work includes platform bring up, low level development, system integration, and preparing products for enterprise wireless deployments.
Your Impact
As a Platform Engineer, you will help build embedded platform software for Cisco wireless products. The role involves developing low level components, supporting hardware bring up, integrating subsystems, and diagnosing system level issues throughout the development lifecycle.
The team is looking for engineers with strong embedded systems fundamentals, solid programming and debugging abilities, and the capability to collaborate in a cross functional engineering environment. Interest in modern AI assisted engineering practices that improve development productivity and code quality is also valued.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the design, development, debugging, and validation of embedded software for wireless platform products.
- Assist in building low level platform software including board support packages, platform services, boot time initialization, and device level components.
- Support hardware bring up and subsystem integration for new and existing platforms.
- Investigate and troubleshoot software and system issues within embedded Linux environments alongside senior engineers.
- Improve software quality through code reviews, testing, automation, and continuous integration practices.
- Collaborate with hardware, testing, manufacturing, and product engineering teams.
- Apply sound engineering practices to deliver reliable and maintainable production ready platform software.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Up to 1 year of experience in embedded software development through coursework, internships, or industry exposure.
- Proficiency in C and C++, with familiarity in Python or shell scripting.
- Understanding of embedded systems fundamentals including memory, interrupts, concurrency, and hardware software interfaces.
- Working knowledge of embedded Linux concepts.
- Strong debugging, analytical, and problem solving abilities.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within cross functional engineering teams.
- Interest in AI assisted tools and practices for software development, debugging, testing automation, and engineering productivity.
Preferred Qualifications
- Exposure to board bring up, device drivers, or board support package development through projects or internships.
- Familiarity with hardware interfaces such as UART, SPI, I2C, GPIO, PCIe, or Ethernet.
- Basic understanding of networking concepts or wireless technologies.
