Meet the Team

The Cloud Security Engineering team at Cisco develops technologies that help organizations secure their networks and users. The team focuses on building and operating secure cloud platforms that support modern network protection solutions.

This role is for a Cloud DevOps Engineer within the SSE Control Plane organization. The team designs, develops, deploys, and operates microservices that improve cloud network experience, traffic optimization, and insights for products such as Cisco Umbrella and Cisco Secure Access.

You will gain hands-on exposure to modern cloud infrastructure, CI/CD practices, container platforms, observability tools, automation, and production operations while working alongside experienced engineers.

Your Impact

  • Support development and operations teams in building and automating software delivery workflows.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines that enable reliable deployments from development through production.
  • Assist with monitoring application and infrastructure health using observability and monitoring platforms.
  • Help troubleshoot issues across applications, cloud platforms, and infrastructure components.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to improve deployment, testing, automation, and operational processes.
  • Learn and apply best practices related to cloud security, reliability, scalability, and incident response.
  • Develop scripts, tools, and automation that enhance engineering productivity.
  • Work closely with developers, DevOps engineers, and system administrators supporting production services.
  • Continuously explore new tools and practices in cloud, DevOps, and site reliability engineering.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Fresh graduate or early-career candidate interested in Cloud DevOps, SRE, infrastructure, or automation.
  • Basic understanding of software development principles and operating system concepts.
  • Programming or scripting exposure in languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, Go, Bash, or Shell.
  • Familiarity with Unix/Linux environments and command-line tools.
  • Understanding of cloud computing fundamentals including compute, storage, networking, and managed services.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure through coursework, projects, or internships.
  • Basic knowledge of DevOps practices such as CI/CD pipelines, automation, build systems, and infrastructure as code.
  • Awareness of container technologies like Docker; familiarity with Kubernetes is beneficial.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Academic or personal projects related to cloud infrastructure, automation, DevOps, or backend systems.
  • Exposure to CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI.
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git.
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals including DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, TCP/IP, load balancing, and firewalls.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and logging platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, or ELK.
  • Basic knowledge of microservices architecture.
  • Interest in cloud security, distributed systems, production operations, and reliability engineering.

Who You’ll Work With

The Cloud Security Control Plane Engineering team builds and operates essential control plane services supporting the Cisco Umbrella and Cisco Secure Access platforms.

You will collaborate with developers, DevOps engineers, systems engineers, and cloud infrastructure teams. The environment encourages learning, experimentation, and engineering excellence while working with multiple engineering groups across Cisco.

  • Work closely with engineering teams responsible for infrastructure, deployment, and monitoring.
  • Learn through hands-on tasks, reviews, and mentorship from experienced engineers.
  • Contribute to building reliable, scalable, and secure cloud services.
