Job Description

Purpose of the Role

The role focuses on overseeing the financial aspects of trading activity, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the bank's trading book. It supports compliance with regulatory standards while providing insight into trading performance and financial outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reconcile daily profit and loss (P&L) figures for trading desks and ensure they align with valued trading positions, investigating and resolving any discrepancies.
  • Assist in identifying, assessing, and mitigating trading-related financial risks and report findings to senior colleagues.
  • Maintain and analyse trading data to ensure completeness, accuracy, and consistency, while providing insights on trading performance.
  • Prepare and submit regulatory reports to relevant authorities and support external audits by addressing auditor queries and ensuring accurate financial representation of trading activities.
  • Communicate complex financial information clearly to traders, risk teams, senior colleagues, and external stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to support coordinated trading operations.

Analyst Expectations

  • Deliver assigned tasks on time and maintain high quality standards while contributing to continuous improvement.
  • Develop strong technical understanding within the assigned area of expertise and apply underlying financial concepts effectively.
  • Coordinate with related teams and functions, ensuring alignment with operational processes and organisational objectives.
  • Take ownership of assigned responsibilities, manage risks effectively, and ensure adherence to internal policies, regulations, and codes of conduct.
  • Analyse information carefully, make sound judgements, and resolve issues by applying relevant technical experience and established practices.
  • Communicate complex or sensitive information effectively and build working relationships with stakeholders across teams.

The role works closely with the Product Control team to ensure the completeness and accuracy of books and records including P&L and balance sheet substantiation and reporting. The position also monitors trading activity for policy compliance and provides technical and operational analysis of the business unit. Collaboration with Front Office teams, Financial Control, Technical Accounting, Change Management, Technology, and other infrastructure groups is an important part of the role.

Required Skills

  • Experience using the MS Office toolkit.
  • Professional accounting qualification.
  • Strong awareness of financial controls, including identifying and escalating potential control issues and improving processes.
  • Ability to work effectively within global teams and communicate with stakeholders across regions.

Preferred Experience

  • Articleship or industrial training experience in mid to large firms.
  • Audit exposure within large financial institutions or banking organisations.
