Job Description
The role focuses on overseeing the financial aspects of trading activities, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the bank's trading book. The position supports regulatory compliance and provides analysis and insights into trading performance.
Purpose of the Role
The analyst is responsible for maintaining the accuracy of trading records, monitoring financial performance, and ensuring that trading activities are correctly reflected in financial reporting and regulatory submissions.
Key Responsibilities
- Reconcile daily profit and loss (P&L) figures for trading desks and ensure they match valued positions in the trading book. Investigate and resolve discrepancies so results reflect the true economic value of the portfolio.
- Assist with identifying, assessing, and mitigating trading risks while reporting financial risk insights to senior stakeholders.
- Maintain and analyze trading data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency, and provide insights on trading performance to traders and senior teams.
- Prepare and submit regulatory reports and support external audits by addressing auditor queries and ensuring financial statements properly reflect trading activity.
- Communicate complex financial information clearly to traders, risk teams, senior colleagues, and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate across functions to support coordinated trading operations and reporting.

- Build an understanding of the organization’s products, services, and processes while recognizing how the role contributes to broader business objectives.
- Analyze factual information carefully, make informed judgments, and resolve issues using prior experience and established precedents.
- Communicate complex or sensitive information effectively and act as a contact point for stakeholders beyond the immediate team.
Within the PC Banking team, the analyst works with the Line PC team to ensure completeness and accuracy of financial records, including P&L and balance sheet substantiation and reporting. The role also monitors trading activities for policy compliance and provides management with technical and operational insights. Collaboration with Front Office teams, Financial Control, Technical Accounting Group, PC Change Management, Technology, and other infrastructure teams is a regular part of the position.
Required Skills and Background
- Hands-on experience using the MS Office toolkit.
- Qualified accountant.
- Strong communication and presentation capabilities in both formal and informal environments, with the ability to collaborate with global teams.
- Strong awareness of internal controls and the ability to identify potential control breakdowns while improving processes efficiently.
Preferred Skills
- Exposure to financial engineering concepts.
- Articleship or industrial training experience in mid to large-sized firms.
- Audit exposure within large financial institutions or banks.
