Overview
Position Summary
The Associate Pipeline Technical Director builds and maintains software tools that support artists working in a fast paced feature film visual effects environment. The role provides front line assistance to production teams and helps troubleshoot issues across the CG pipeline, with the main goal of improving artist efficiency. Day to day priorities are guided by the Pipeline Supervisor.
A remote work option is available for this role.
What You’ll Do
- Develop pipeline and asset management tools to address show specific production needs while maintaining facility wide consistency under the direction of show and technical supervisors.
- Support and maintain a wide range of existing workflows and scripts used throughout the pipeline.
- Provide production assistance across multiple disciplines, troubleshoot assets and shots, and help artists resolve technical issues.
- Monitor incoming support requests, document problems, and route them to the appropriate engineering teams when needed.
- Collect information on artist challenges, resolve user errors, and guide complex problems to the relevant technical teams.
- Test and validate tools and production techniques, collaborating with engineering teams when testing and releasing updated software systems.
- Serve as an on call resource for production teams during active shows.
- When not assigned to a show, contribute to software initiatives focused on improving pipeline efficiency.
- Follow direction from show supervisors to manage daily priorities.
- Work primarily on workflow tools while building an understanding of the broader production pipeline.
- Develop familiarity with software systems, production standards, and established conventions.
- Maintain and update documentation for pipeline tools and workflows when changes are introduced.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
- Experience developing and maintaining tools used in a computer graphics environment.
- Working proficiency with Linux systems.
- Strong Python scripting ability.
- Understanding of visual effects or feature animation production pipelines.
- Experience with 2D and 3D CG applications such as Maya, Mari, Houdini, Katana, Nuke, or RenderMan.
- Familiarity with production database systems.
