Job Description
The Associate COBOL Developer is responsible for implementing application changes within projects and supporting ongoing maintenance activities through incident management processes (L3 support). The role works closely with business and IT stakeholders to identify and manage changes, risks, issues, and compliance gaps while aligning with DB IT risk policies, compliance standards, application roadmaps, and defined business requirements.
The position requires hands-on involvement in COBOL development and testing activities, including unit and system testing, while supporting end-to-end test management. The developer will also collaborate with stakeholders to clarify requirements, review implementation outcomes, and maintain accurate documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain COBOL applications within the product area Sales Key and Provision Platforms, specifically the PB Commission Platforms squad.
- Work with applications that manage, process, and report data related to organizational structures, field service agents, and commission management.
- Participate in software development initiatives, implementing and testing both business and IT requirements.
- Support software deployment activities to ensure successful transition of solutions into production environments.
- Maintain and update application documentation throughout the development lifecycle.
Skills and Experience
- Practical experience with COBOL and database concepts including SQL and table organization.
- Familiarity with technologies such as CICS, 3270 programming, and UC4 scheduling is beneficial.
- Experience using software development lifecycle or DevOps tools such as Jira, HP ALM, or Confluence.
- Understanding of application governance and development guidelines.
- Ability to handle unexpected issues by gathering information, analyzing situations, identifying solutions, and resolving problems efficiently.
- Exposure to other programming languages such as Java, Visual Basic .NET, or C# is considered an advantage.
- Experience working in Agile or Scrum environments is desirable.
