Overview

Industrial Design & Architecture Engineer

In this role, you will support company objectives aimed at improving the design of plants and stations that enable the industrial system to scale for existing programs while preparing robust manufacturing capabilities for future aircraft generations.

The position involves working with the Industrial DMU, preparing methodology documentation, and helping define and deploy industrial systems and digital twin capabilities within digital manufacturing and Industry 4.0 initiatives. The role also contributes to establishing best practices that support industrial teams from conceptual design through implementation.

You will gain exposure across a wide range of Airbus programs, from current aircraft platforms such as A320, A330 and A350 to future initiatives including the Zero‑E program.

Digital Manufacturing & Industry 4.0

  • Design plant layouts for different production rates and perform 3D simulations for logistics and human path validation.
  • Evaluate alternative solutions and conduct trade‑off analysis using industrial simulation KPIs.
  • Define forward and inverse kinematics for conceptual jig design and run 3D flow simulations.
  • Automate industrial system design through robotic simulations including material handling, spot welding and arc welding.
  • Perform ergonomic analysis to support worker health and safety.
  • Manage design changes, release processes and configuration management within the industrial setup.
  • Use augmented and virtual reality for station and jig design validation.

Manufacturing Engineering

  • Apply shopfloor knowledge to implement lean manufacturing practices when designing or improving industrial systems.
  • Use industrial engineering principles to define optimized layouts and processes aligned with target takt time.
  • Create and validate build sequences.
  • Apply GD&T knowledge to support industrial tolerancing.
  • Interpret design and manufacturing drawings to develop or analyze 2D and 3D layouts, jigs and tools.
  • Develop NC programming and simulation for deployment on the shop floor.

Industrial Architecture

  • Support development projects from early R&T concepts through implementation using a co‑design approach.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure architecture solutions meet defined requirements and performance targets.
  • Capture and analyze stakeholder needs and translate them into architectural solutions.
  • Align architecture strategies with broader business goals and long‑term planning.
  • Knowledge of Airbus aircraft programs and basic understanding of structural assembly and system integration is beneficial.

It is not expected that one person possesses every skill listed above. A foundational understanding across these areas is sufficient.

The role also offers exposure to multiple industrial system domains including industrial digital mock‑ups, ergonomics and safety, robotic simulation, and jig and tool design with tolerancing considerations.
