The FOSSEE (Free and Open Source Software for Education) initiative at IIT Bombay has officially opened applications for its Semester Long Internship Program 2026. This internship offers students across India an opportunity to work closely with national-level academic projects while contributing to open-source development under expert mentorship.
This program is conducted entirely online, making it accessible to students from all regions, and is designed to run alongside an academic semester.
FOSSEE is a project under the National Mission on Education through ICT (NMEICT), Ministry of Education, Government of India. Headquartered at IIT Bombay, FOSSEE focuses on promoting the use of free and open-source software in academia, research, and industry.
Through its internships, FOSSEE enables students to gain real-world experience by contributing to nationally used open-source platforms across engineering, science, and technology domains.

The FOSSEE Semester Long Internship is open to students who meet the following criteria:
There is no restriction on batch year, as long as the student is enrolled during the internship period.
Any updates regarding stipends, if announced later, will be published on the official FOSSEE website.
The selection process is purely merit-based and revolves around screening tasks.
Failure to submit the NOC will result in the offer being passed to the next candidate on the waitlist.
