Who can apply for the IIT Bhubaneswar winter internship

The institute page and the internship rules say that students registered for a degree program in any academic institution who want to intern at IIT Bhubaneswar can apply. The application portal describes a narrower group: students registered for a degree in a Government funded Technical Institution and students referred by various academies. If your college falls outside that description and you aren't sure where you stand, email office.academic@iitbbs.ac.in before you fill the form.

Schools and departments taking winter interns

The portal lists these areas where you can intern:

  • School of Basic Sciences
  • Earth, Ocean and Climate Sciences
  • Electrical Sciences
  • Infrastructure
  • Mechanical Sciences
  • Humanities, Social Sciences and Management
  • Minerals, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering

Duration, mode and key dates

IIT Bhubaneswar's general rules allow internships of 3 to 8 weeks, offered only in the winter and summer vacations. The winter cycle is shorter: at least three weeks and no more than four, all inside the 5 December 2026 to 2 January 2027 break. You work in person, and your faculty member decides how the interaction runs.

The institute hasn't fixed the result date or the programme start date yet. Both are marked "will be updated shortly" on the official page, so check back after the deadline.

IIT Bhubaneswar internship stipend, hostel and food

There is no fixed stipend. A supervisor can pay you a fellowship if their project has funds, and the rules say this needs prior approval from the Dean, SRIC. Plan your budget as if you'll cover your own costs.

Hostel rooms are given on payment and only when available. You request one after selection, and the request goes through your supervisor: the institute page names the Chairperson, Warden Council, while the portal says the Dean of Student Affairs, forwarded by the supervisor and the Head of School. Food and other amenities are paid by you.

While on campus you follow institute rules. Your school or department may give you a temporary ID card, and you can use the library, internet and other facilities.

How IIT Bhubaneswar selects winter interns

Your application is first screened by the school or department, and a selection committee then picks the interns. Under the rules, that committee includes the Head of the School/Department and at least two faculty members, and each school may take 2 interns per faculty member. A waiting list may also be drawn up.

Selected students are told by email, and the final list with supervisor names goes up on the institute website. Nobody contacts students who aren't selected, so watch the website and your application status on the portal.
