One line on the programme page says this internship runs from January 2026 to May 2026. That's a typo. The important dates table on the same page puts it in January to May 2027, and those are the dates used here.

What the VNIT Nagpur internship involves

Interns work on research or consultancy project components under the guidance of a VNIT faculty member. You don't pick a project blind. Each department's coordinator runs a seminar, online or offline, where faculty present their problem statements, and you then rank the faculty you'd like to work under.

VNIT expects real output by the end. The notice gives publications and patent filings as examples, along with product or technology development, and every intern also presents a seminar in their department. A five-month stint gives you a fair chance at a paper, which a six-week summer project rarely does.

Departments with an internship coordinator listed on the page:

  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Mathematics
  • Humanities and Social Sciences
  • Computer Science and Engineering
  • Electronics and Communication Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Mining Engineering
  • Metallurgical and Materials Engineering
  • Applied Mechanics
  • Architecture and Planning
  • Centre for VLSI and Nanotechnology

The coordinator list with contact emails is on the programme page. Send any query to the coordinator of the department you're applying to.

VNIT Nagpur internship eligibility

You must have completed one of the following:

  • Second year or third year of BE/BTech
  • Second, third or fourth year of an integrated BTech-MTech (dual degree)
  • Second, third or fourth year of BArch
  • Second, third or fourth year of BS-MS (integrated MSc programme)
  • First year of MTech or MSc at any recognised university or institute

Your latest grade card must show First Class or a CGPA higher than 7. Students who have already completed the final year of their degree are not eligible. The scheme is open to students from other institutes as well as VNIT's own students.

How to apply for the VNIT Nagpur semester internship

  1. Fill in the VNIT internship registration form on or before 22 October 2026.
  2. Keep checking the email address you gave in the form. Details of the faculty interaction and later instructions come there.
  3. Attend your department's presentation seminar, where faculty describe their problem statements. Ask questions here, since this is where you decide which project fits you.
  4. Submit your faculty preferences within the time window the department sets.
  5. Check the approved allocation list on the institute's internship website. Final selections are due by 30 November 2026.
  6. Confirm your participation with your assigned faculty member and the department coordinator within the stated time.
  7. Report to VNIT on 4 January 2027 with the documents listed below.

The evaluation window starts on 23 October, the day after the form closes, and runs to 30 October. Keep that week free so you don't miss the department interaction.

Documents to carry when you report to VNIT

  • Aadhaar card
  • Bonafide certificate or NOC signed by the head of your institution or department
  • Latest grade card
  • Signed undertaking (Annexure-I)

Annexure-I, a sample NOC and the report template (Annexure-II) are posted on the VNIT internship programme page. The undertaking commits you to VNIT's rules and its Intellectual Property Rights policy, so read it before you sign. Ask your college for the NOC well before January.

Attendance, report and certificate rules

Attendance is marked daily on a biometric system, and you need at least 75% to qualify for a certificate. At the end, you submit a detailed report to the department internship coordinator through your supervisor.

The report follows the Annexure-II template and should cover background, objectives, methodology, outcomes, challenges and learnings. Attach a plagiarism check report, plus evidence of any outcome such as a publication, a patent or a product.

The certificate needs a satisfactory recommendation from your supervisor, and the Dean (Academics) gives final approval based on the quality and completeness of your work. Your VNIT project must be clearly separate from any project you do for your degree at your home institute. Misconduct or malpractice ends the internship immediately, and VNIT does not take responsibility for accidents or injuries during the programme.

Other VNIT Nagpur internship programmes

VNIT also runs a Summer Internship Program of about six weeks and a July-December semester programme of about five months. Neither is taking registrations now, so check the programme page for their next dates. For summer options elsewhere, see our summer internships guide, or browse all opportunities on Talentd.
