Finance Associate - Client Accounting (Sales Operations)

As a Finance Associate in Client Accounting within Sales Operations / Order Management, you will support the contract-to-project setup process for professional services engagements. The role involves ensuring that signed client documents such as MSAs, SOWs, and POs are accurately translated into SAP customer project and billing setups so delivery teams can execute projects and Finance can apply revenue policies. Work is execution-focused and follows defined SOPs, templates, and checklists with oversight from senior team members.

Key Responsibilities

• Contract intake and validation: Review incoming client documents for completeness and readiness, ensure required information is present, and organize contract records for internal access.
• Operational review of contract terms: Confirm that operational details are clear enough for project and billing setup. Escalate gaps or unclear information to senior team members, Finance, or Legal.
• SAP project setup support: Assist with foundational SAP setup activities that enable billing, including maintaining billing items, selecting contract types such as Fixed Price or Time and Expenses, assigning work packages, entering amounts or caps, and capturing customer references like purchase orders.
• Cross-functional coordination: Work with Sales, Delivery or Project teams, and Finance to gather missing inputs, clarify basic details such as dates or billing schedules, and ensure the setup moves through the standard workflow.
• Status tracking and documentation: Provide routine updates, record decisions or actions taken, and maintain an audit-ready trail of changes and approvals.
• Operational reporting support: Maintain organized records and trackers such as contract intake status, setup progress, and exception logs. Support basic operational reporting including processed volumes and cycle time.

Contract Elements Reviewed

• Scope, deliverables, and timelines to ensure alignment with project structure and billing phases.
• Payment structures and triggers such as milestone-based billing, periodic billing, or time and expenses.
• Core contract data required for setup including parties, contact information, effective dates, expiration dates, and customer references like POs.
• Alignment of billing plans and invoice methods with the contracted payment structure, with escalation if inconsistencies are identified.

Revenue Recognition Awareness

The role requires general awareness of ASC 606 and IFRS 15 revenue recognition principles. Associates should understand the five-step model at a high level to identify contract terms that may influence project setup or downstream revenue treatment, while final accounting decisions remain with the Finance team.

Working Environment

ZS follows a flexible and connected hybrid model where employees typically work onsite at client locations or ZS offices three days per week, with the option to work remotely two days per week. Some travel may be required depending on project and client needs.
