This nine month paid research program is designed for PhD scholars who want to apply their research knowledge to real engineering problems within the transport and infrastructure domain.
About the Role
The position is within the Electromobility team focusing on electrical simulation for Energy Storage System battery packs. The team drives the transition from conventional powertrains toward electromobility and develops solutions for trucks and buses across multiple regions.
Simulation is a key part of the electromobility product development lifecycle. You will work with skilled product teams in an open and collaborative environment where knowledge sharing and teamwork are encouraged.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct literature studies to benchmark simulation approaches in electrical and power electronics domains.
- Develop electromagnetic simulation methods for electric vehicle components and verify compliance with relevant standards such as onboard chargers and DC-DC converters.
- Perform power electronics simulations for components including DC-DC converters and transformers.
- Create component CAD models, run simulations, and compare results with experimental data to improve model reliability.
- Work with system engineers to align electromagnetic designs with broader system requirements.
- Analyze simulation outputs and suggest design improvements.
- Develop and benchmark new simulation tools and methodologies.
- Define requirements, tests, and datasets needed for building accurate simulation models.
Required Skills and Experience
- Research background in power electronics and EMI/EMC domains.
- Understanding of electromagnetic systems and related standards.
- Experience with simulation tools such as Ansys Maxwell and Simulia CST Studio is preferred.
- Exposure to CAD tools for component modeling.
- Ability to communicate simulation results clearly to global stakeholders.
