About the Program

The apprenticeship is a 12-month learning program designed to combine theoretical understanding with practical workplace training. Apprentices at Russell Investments will gain industry exposure, build professional skills, and adapt to a corporate work environment.

Role Summary

As an AI Governance & Cybersecurity Apprentice, you will support the secure and ethical use of Artificial Intelligence across the organization. The role involves working with AI engineering and cybersecurity teams on governance, compliance, and security initiatives related to AI systems, rapid prototyping, and third-party integrations.

This hands-on role provides exposure to AI model governance, cybersecurity assessments, and risk management practices within a global investment firm.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the AI lifecycle from model ideation through deployment and retirement.
• Maintain documentation for model lineage, data provenance, and decision logic to improve transparency and audit readiness.
• Track AI model performance and identify behavioural drift or unintended outcomes.
• Assist with security assessments for AI models and data pipelines, including risks such as prompt injection, model inversion, and data poisoning.
• Help implement Human-in-the-Loop controls to reduce security and operational risks.
• Work with security teams to support secure configurations for LLMs, RAG architectures, and agentic workflows.
• Provide governance feedback during rapid prototyping and experimentation activities.
• Support secure development and deployment of internal AI chatbot solutions.
• Review third-party AI APIs and SaaS platforms for security and compliance considerations.
• Maintain records of AI vendors, including privacy policies, certifications, and data handling practices.
• Coordinate with legal and compliance teams on AI risk management and vendor governance.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Technology.
• Basic understanding of AI concepts, including LLMs, prompt engineering, and API integrations.
• Familiarity with cybersecurity and AI governance principles.
• Interest in ethics, compliance, and secure software development practices.

Preferred Skills

• Knowledge of Python and cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Exposure to frameworks like NIST AI RMF or OWASP Top 10 for LLMs.
