Client Coverage, Associate - Prime Brokerage

Morgan Stanley is seeking an Associate to join the Prime Brokerage Client Coverage team. In this role, you will act as the primary point of contact for client issues while overseeing client accounts and handling matters related to financing, margin, trade clearing and settlement, cash management, and corporate events.

The Prime Brokerage Client Services team focuses on strong process control, accuracy, and operational efficiency. Team members are located across global offices including New York, San Francisco, London, Mumbai, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Sydney, working together to deliver high-quality service to clients.

The Account Manager team supports the global Prime Brokerage organization and services a variety of clients, primarily hedge funds. Associates work closely with clients to build strong partnerships and provide a single point of coordination between clients and different teams across Morgan Stanley. The role also involves escalation support, issue resolution, and helping deliver practical solutions.

The Mumbai team consists of professionals including chartered accountants, MBAs, and other specialists who bring strong analytical capabilities and a willingness to take on complex assignments. The organization has invested heavily in technology platforms, resulting in highly automated processes and advanced tools that allow client service teams to focus on analyzing client requirements and responding quickly to inquiries.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary account manager and first point of contact for client issues related to financing, margin, trade clearing and settlement, cash management, and corporate events.
• Act as a secondary or backup account manager to respond to and resolve client inquiries across operational areas.
• Coordinate internally to ensure issues are addressed accurately and within expected timelines.
• Oversee the full client onboarding process across asset classes and client types.
• Support client integration by hosting regular update calls, tracking follow-up items, and managing expectations on timelines and next steps.
• Improve transparency during onboarding by coordinating across product teams.
• Perform root cause analysis to reduce recurring issues and improve straight-through processing.
• Analyze data related to client balances, trends, and market share.
• Introduce clients to the latest prime brokerage technology platforms and reporting tools.
• Conduct regulatory and management checks including short sale violations, trade corrections, aged settlements, and restricted currency holdings.
• Support hedge fund clients with due diligence requests, fee schedule validation, billing accuracy, and account opening or closing activities.
• Coordinate with fund administrators and internal teams such as swaps, listed derivatives, interest and finance, and stock loan groups to resolve inquiries.
• Work across multiple teams within Morgan Stanley to resolve problems and deliver effective solutions.

Qualifications

• 0 to 2 years of experience in an investment bank or custodian bank, preferably within capital markets operations.
• Chartered Accountant qualification or an MBA from a recognized institute.
• Understanding of capital markets, financial products, and how trades are executed, settled, and accounted for.
• Familiarity with basic accounting principles.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Experience with MS Office tools such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
