The Model Risk Management Group (MRMG) within the Global Risk and Compliance Group is responsible for the independent risk management of all American Express (AXP) models and non-model tools.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will manage and control model risk, particularly for next-generation AI/ML-based models. You will elevate model excellence, strengthen long-term shareholder value, and adapt to the evolving landscape of model development, external environment, and regulatory expectations.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Conduct independent oversight of enterprise-wide models, focusing on AI/ML models for marketing, credit, fraud, and other business/risk types.
- Perform gap assessments and establish a robust framework to strengthen model risk controls and meet regulatory standards.
- Conduct research to explore opportunities for model excellence and business impact.
- Communicate results to partners, senior leadership, and model committees.

Qualifications
Academic Background: MBA, Master's Degree in Economics, Statistics, or related fields from a top-tier institute.
Functional Skills:
- Hands-on model development or validation experience.
- Strong analytical, relationship, and project management skills for driving validation initiatives.
- Experience applying advanced statistical or quantitative techniques to solve business problems is preferred.
- Good verbal, written, and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively in a team.
- Willingness to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Effectively communicate complex analytical results to business partners and senior management.
- Flexibility and adaptability to work within tight deadlines and changing priorities.
Technical Skills: Experience with at least one data manipulation tool (Python, R, Java, SQL, SAS) is mandatory. Expertise in Data Science, Machine Learning, AI, coding, supervised and unsupervised techniques (active learning, transfer learning, neural models, decision trees, reinforcement learning, graphical models, Gaussian processes, Bayesian models, map-reduce, Random Forest, Gradient Boosting, Deep Learning, Text Mining).
