Application Support Analyst - Backend and Data Applications
This role focuses on supporting backend and data applications within the technology organization. The position requires applying analytical thinking and knowledge of data analysis tools while handling a variety of operational issues. The analyst works with some independence, interpreting data and resolving technical challenges that may affect business operations.
The role combines technical expertise with an understanding of industry practices. Work involves analyzing factual information, troubleshooting problems, and presenting findings clearly. The quality and timeliness of support provided can directly influence the effectiveness of related teams and business functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on support for backend and data applications running on Unix-like operating systems.
- Diagnose and resolve technical issues while minimizing downtime and operational impact.
- Create and maintain scripts that automate routine activities, improve monitoring, and support incident resolution.
- Analyze application logs and system metrics to determine root causes of system issues.
- Write and interpret complex database queries to support troubleshooting, data investigation, and reporting.
- Work closely with development teams to implement fixes, enhancements, and operational improvements.
- Participate in on-call rotations and incident management processes when required.
- Support environments running on Linux operating systems.
- Write and debug basic shell or Python scripts for automation and system management tasks.
- Work with databases by creating and analyzing SQL queries, particularly with Oracle or DB2.
- Review and interpret application and system log files to identify technical problems.
- Support Java-based applications deployed on application servers such as WebSphere or WebLogic.
- Use monitoring and scheduling tools such as Autosys, AppDynamics, Splunk, and ITRS, with basic understanding of microservices environments.
Desired Skills
- Experience using ServiceNow for incident, problem, and change management processes.
- Familiarity with big data technologies and related concepts.
Education
- Bachelor’s or university degree, or equivalent practical experience.
