Meet the Team

The Cisco Enterprise Routing team manages the complete lifecycle of platforms that act as the connectivity backbone for businesses around the world. The team helps ensure that data, from office communication to cloud applications and video conferencing, moves securely and efficiently across branch offices, campus networks, and multi-cloud environments.

Cisco is looking for a Software Development Engineer to contribute to the next generation of Secure Routers. The role involves development across multiple software layers, including low-level drivers, networking protocols, packet forwarding, cryptographic security, AI-enabled capabilities, CPU architecture, and large-scale system optimization.

Your Impact

  • Design and deliver routing stack features with a focus on scalability, reliability, and security.
  • Integrate hardware and software while enabling new platforms.
  • Troubleshoot and debug complex issues across software layers.
  • Work with modern development workflows, including AI-assisted coding tools and VSCode.
  • Develop clean and maintainable code, create unit tests, participate in code reviews, and support secure coding practices.
  • Collaborate with hardware, product, and testing teams across functions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 2 years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree with no prior experience required, in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
  • Strong foundation in C and C++ programming.
  • Good debugging and software development skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Copilot, Claude, or Codex for coding, reviews, debugging, testing, and documentation.
  • Understanding of Operating Systems and OSI model layers.
