Cisco Talos Security Intelligence and Research Group (Talos) focuses on building advanced threat intelligence capabilities. The team includes experienced threat researchers supported by sophisticated systems that help protect customers from known and emerging threats.

Talos develops the content and logic used across Cisco security products including Cisco Secure Firewall, Cisco Secure Email, Cisco Secure Web, Cisco Umbrella, ClamAV, Snort, and SpamCop.

Your Impact

The Research Escalation Engineer within the Talos Escalations group is responsible for handling efficacy-critical issues across intrusion prevention, anti-virus, email, and web security solutions. The role supports products such as Cisco Secure Firewall, Cisco Secure Endpoint, Cisco Secure Email, Cisco Secure Malware Analytics, Cisco Umbrella, and Talos Reputation Services.

Responsibilities

• Triage internal and external escalations related to security efficacy, coverage, scoring, reputation, and listing decisions.
• Provide third-level support for intrusion prevention, anti-virus, email, and web security concerns escalated by customer-facing teams.
• Manage ticket queues and respond to alerts generated by monitoring systems.
• Help define and improve procedures and standard operating practices for internal and external usage.
• Work closely with detection content and engineering teams on escalated security matters.

Minimum Qualifications

• Understanding of networking, transport, and application layer protocols such as IP, TCP, UDP, and HTTP.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities.
• Good collaboration and communication skills with appropriate handling of sensitive information.
• Customer-focused mindset with attention to quality and accuracy.
• Strong technical aptitude and willingness to learn continuously.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of intrusion prevention and anti-virus detection techniques.
• Understanding of malware, spam, and phishing concepts.
• Experience with UNIX systems and tools such as dig, traceroute, and whois.
• Knowledge of email technologies, SMTP traffic, RFCs, and email header analysis.
• Familiarity with protocols such as SMTP, POP, IMAP, SIP, and SSL.
• Experience with Python, shell scripting, regular expressions, and SQL.
