Overview

Job Description

Job Title: Weight Data Verification and Validation Intern

Internship Duration: 6 months

Introduction

The Mass Properties team at Airbus provides essential mass, center of gravity, and inertia data ranging from individual components to the full aircraft level across Airbus products. The team computes and maintains mass properties information throughout multiple phases of the aircraft design lifecycle.

Input data used for Mass Properties is stored in advanced Product Data Management (PDM) systems and comes from several sources including design teams, suppliers, and weight engineers. At times, the data can be inconsistent or lack robustness, creating quality challenges and increasing the time required for validation and engineering deliverables. Identifying inaccurate or inconsistent entries helps simplify the workflow and improves the reliability of data.

About the Role

Airbus is looking for a motivated and detail oriented intern to support initiatives focused on improving weight data quality across aircraft programs such as the A320 Family, A330, and A350. In this role, you will help detect incorrect weight information by identifying anomalies and reintroducing accurate data into core systems using business rules, statistical analysis, and machine learning techniques.

The selected candidate should be available for the full six month internship period.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze equipment related data including systems, control panels, connectors, and wiring across different programs to detect anomalies in weight information.
  • Apply product knowledge rules to verify consistency and accuracy across multiple data sources.
  • Develop approaches that use machine learning and AI techniques to detect incorrect entries and support corrective actions.
  • Use statistical analysis and machine learning models to identify anomalies in datasets.
  • Collaborate on guidelines for sanity checks, develop test cases against expected reference values, classify datasets, and investigate root causes of outliers.
  • Evaluate parameters such as component category, physical dimensions, power consumption, and cable quantities to maintain data integrity.
  • Monitor historical data trends, including expected reductions in weight, to identify unusual deviations.
  • Work closely with engineering and data teams to understand technical context and refine validation rules.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, or Civil), Computer Science, or a related analytical field.
  • Strong academic foundation in data analysis, applied statistics, and machine learning concepts.
  • Hands on programming experience in Python for data analysis and manipulation.
  • High attention to detail and an interest in solving complex analytical problems, with enthusiasm for the aerospace domain.

What We Offer

  • Hands on experience working on a real data quality project within a global aerospace organization.
  • Mentorship and guidance from experienced engineering professionals.
  • A collaborative and innovative work environment where new ideas are encouraged.

This role requires awareness of compliance risks and a commitment to integrity, supporting the company’s reputation and long term success.

Airbus promotes diversity and equal opportunity in the workplace. Applications are welcome from all backgrounds. Airbus will never request monetary payment during the recruitment process.
