Goldman Sachs Asset & Wealth Management Division (AWM) offers a broad product line covering all primary asset classes and maintains a global distribution platform to serve a diverse client base of institutions and individuals. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer of AWM, the Finance team works closely with senior management on projects that impact the division's growth and profitability, as well as with AWM business unit leaders on specific financial issues and strategic initiatives.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Finance team's work is primarily project-based, with typical durations ranging from a few days to several months. Projects vary in nature and require team members to bring financial and strategic insight to help management resolve issues common to large companies. The Finance Analyst is expected to actively participate in projects, develop expertise in data, financial systems, and operating infrastructure, build relationships across the business, and communicate effectively. Recent projects and analyses include:

  • Presentation on AWM's financials, strategy, risk management, and product performance for the GS Board
  • Benchmarking operating results against key industry competitors
  • Marginal profitability analysis to support pricing of new mandates
  • Regular reporting and analysis of fully allocated profitability by business
  • P&L forecasting for current and future years, including the firmwide budget process
  • Financial analysis of Growth Markets expansion initiatives
  • Compensation strategy and analysis
  • Tracking and analysis of sales and productivity
  • Active management of AWM's expense policy and savings initiatives

Basic Qualifications

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, detail-oriented, and proficient in building and handling complex models
  • Ability to effectively communicate and present results, highlighting broader commercial and strategic impact
  • Extremely proactive and able to work well in a team environment, excelling as part of small project teams
  • Comfortable developing relationships throughout the firm and building networks within the division and with federation areas
  • All team members are required to work with significant volumes of data and systems
  • Expect a challenging, fast-paced environment requiring the ability to focus on and deliver multiple projects effectively

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-Graduate in Finance or Chartered Accountant with 0-2 years of work experience
  • Exposure to and working knowledge of Business Intelligence tools (Qlik, Tableau, Power BI, Alteryx) to create workflows and visualizations
  • Computer science background or programming experience is a plus
  • Experience with large data sets, technology, and exposure to Asset Management, Management Consulting, or Investment Banking industries is a plus
